If you’re struggling to keep up with the rapid increase in energy prices, now might be just be time to consider a more efficient and cost-effective way of illuminating your home with LEDs!
Fuel Poverty Currently Widespread
According to figures released by energy watchdog Ofgem, the price of the average household’s energy rose by a staggering 65% in the four years leading up to 2012!
And, with the increases that have taken place in the subsequent years, it has been conservatively estimated that a demoralising 6 million British households are suffering from what’s known as “fuel poverty”. This is defined by the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Act as: “A person or people living in a home which cannot be kept warm at reasonable cost”.
LEDs Set To Save The Day!
Fortunately, there’s a light source that will save you an enormous amount of money when you adopt it. It comes in the shape of LED Solution’s LED lights and bulbs!
But how can switching over to LED illumination help you reduce your energy bills? Well it’s really very simple. LEDs are inherently more energy efficient than any other type of light bulb currently on the market, and will enable you to slash your lighting energy bills by up to 90%.
How They Do It
They achieve this stunning efficiency by converting the vast majority of the energy they consume into light, as opposed to heat which is a wasteful by-product of the illumination process.
Producing light without producing much heat enables LEDs to operate at much lower voltages than both their halogen and incandescent counterparts, even beating the CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) we used to consider “energy-saving” hands down!
Give Up On Old-School Light Bulbs
Traditional bulbs like those mentioned above squander up to 90% of their energy by producing heat. Indeed, you’ll have discovered this if you’ve ever touched an incandescent bulb a few minutes after switching it on. Yes, then you’ll appreciate that heating a tungsten filament until it’s white-hot isn’t the most efficient way to produce light, but it IS the most painful!
While LEDs do generate some heat, they’re equipped with a very effective heat sink that dissipates it, thereby. This protects the diode(s) and enables them to get on with their job.
The Amount You Can Save
To illustrate the amount of money you’ll be able to save by switching to LED lighting, we’ve provided a hypothetical scenario:
Let’s say you have 12 x 100 watt B22 incandescent light bulbs in your home and they’re all switched on for 6 hours every day for a year. That’s a total of 2,190 hours over the course of the year.
Using an online energy calculator, you’ll see that these traditional bulbs will cost a total of £404.97 based on the UK average fuel price in June 2017.
However, if you were to switch to 12 x GE LED Energy Smart B22 Omni Bulbs (pictured) which consume just 14 watts each yet produce a similar number of lumens, your lighting energy costs would fall drastically to £56.70.
That’s a saving of £348.27 in just ONE YEAR!
Longer Lasting Too!
These massive savings are on energy alone, but when you consider the fact that LEDs last around 10 times as long as fluorescents and up to 20 times as long as their incandescent contemporaries, you’ll begin to appreciate just how much it’s possible to save simply by changing a few bulbs!
